How to Choose Wedding Linens: Colors, Fabrics, and Lengths

Linens transform a bare table into a polished focal point. The right combination of color, fabric, and length can make a $50 folding table look like it belongs at a five-star event. Here is how to choose well.

Step 1: Decide on Drop Length

"Drop" refers to how far the tablecloth hangs below the table edge.

Floor-length (full drop): The tablecloth grazes the floor, hiding the table legs completely. This is the most formal and elegant look. Required for most wedding receptions.

Lap-length (half drop): The cloth hangs roughly to guest knee height, showing the bottom half of the table legs. Common at casual parties and outdoor events.
